Where does the Christmas stocking come from? Long ago, there lived 3 very poor sisters. Their father despaired of not being able to provide them with a dowry so they could marry. A man heard of this story and wanted to help them. Thus, one winter night, he slipped down the chimney a bit of gold which landed in the girls' stockings, stockings they had left to dry there during the night. The 3 young girls discovered the happy surprise the next morning and were so grateful that they told this story to anyone who would listen. But who was this benefactor you ask? Well, you all know him: it is Saint Nicholas, the origin of the myth of Santa Claus.
